Before you go
- The e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr is only open to Indians who already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Irish visa or residence permit — those without one must apply for a sticker visa at a Turkish consulate in India (allow 4–8 weeks); airlines will deny boarding without a visa in hand.
- The e-Visa costs USD 43 (approx ₹3,650–4,000), grants a 30-day single-entry stay for Indian holders, and must be applied for at least 72 hours before departure as processing can take up to three working days.
- Cappadocia balloon flights are cancelled on 30–40% of mornings due to wind — always book refundable slots and build in a buffer day, as no-fly days cannot be predicted.

Getting there, permits & day trips
By air — Non-stop Delhi (DEL) or Mumbai (BOM) → Istanbul (IST) on Turkish Airlines, Air India, IndiGo; ~8–9 hrs; multiple daily; IST is Asia's best-connected hub. Onward domestic flights to Nevsehir/Kayseri (Cappadocia) or Denizli/Izmir on Turkish Airlines or Pegasus — 1–1.5 hrs, ~₹3,000–6,000 one-way.
By rail — No rail link from India. Within Turkey: Istanbul–Ankara on YHT high-speed train, 4 hrs, ~₹1,200. Overnight sleeper trains to other cities less reliable — domestic flights preferred.
By road — No road route from India. Within Turkey: intercity luxury buses (Metro Turizm, Pamukkale Turizm) connect Istanbul, Pamukkale, Kusadasi, Göreme; comfortable and cheap but long (8–12 hrs for Istanbul–Cappadocia). Rent-a-car available with international driving permit.

Permits & entry — Indians can access Turkey's e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr only if they already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Irish visa or residence permit; the fee is USD 43 (approx ₹3,650–4,000) and the grant is 30 days single-entry. Processing takes up to 72 hours — apply at least 72 hours before departure. Indians without a qualifying prior visa must apply for a sticker visa at a Turkish embassy or consulate in India; processing takes 10–20 working days, so begin the application 4–8 weeks before travel. No visa on arrival exists. The Turkish MFA requires a passport valid for at least 60 days beyond the last day of the intended stay; six months from arrival is a widely recommended safety margin but is not the statutory minimum. No special permits are needed for the standard tourist circuit (Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Ephesus), and no vaccination certificate is required.
