- April–June heat reaches 40–45 °C in Jaisalmer, making outdoor sightseeing genuinely dangerous — do not book clients in summer.
- Pushkar Camel Fair (Oct 30–Nov 5 in 2025; exact November dates vary annually) and Diwali week push mid-range hotel rates 2–3× and sell out months in advance — advise booking 3–4 months ahead.
- Gem-shop and 'school art project' scams concentrate around Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort gate; instruct clients never to follow touts or accept unsolicited free tours.

Getting there, permits & day trips
By air — Jaipur (JAI) 1 hr from Delhi, 1.5 hrs from Mumbai; Udaipur (UDR) 1.5 hrs from Mumbai, 1.25 hrs from Delhi; Jaisalmer (JSA) 1.5 hrs from Delhi — IndiGo and Air India cover all three, fares Rs2,500-7,000 one-way in season
By rail — Delhi to Jaipur by Shatabdi Express 4.5 hrs (Rs700-1,600); Jaipur to Udaipur by Mewar Express overnight 11 hrs (Rs600-2,500 sleeper); Jodhpur to Jaisalmer 5 hrs — book 60 days ahead on IRCTC, Tatkal fills in minutes
By road — Delhi to Jaipur 5.5 hrs on NH48 by private car or Rajasthan Roadways bus; Jaipur to Udaipur 6.5 hrs via Ajmer-Pushkar; Jodhpur to Jaisalmer 5 hrs — private car recommended for flexibility between cities

Permits & entry — Indian nationals require no permit at Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer city, or the main tourist sites (Sam Dunes, Kuldhara, Bada Bagh, Longewala), all explicitly exempted for Indian citizens under the 2025 MHA gazette notification on the Rajasthan border-belt Protected Area/PAP regime; that regime applies only to foreign nationals and OCI cardholders. Foreign nationals must hold a valid Indian e-Visa obtained online before arrival — allow 3–5 business days and apply up to 120 days in advance. India's Visa on Arrival is restricted to Japanese, South Korean, and UAE nationals at six designated airports and is not a general alternative to the e-Visa. Personal photography with handheld cameras and mobile phones (without flash) is free at centrally protected ASI monuments under the 2024 ASI policy update; commercial or professional filming still requires paid advance permission. Elephant rides at Amber Fort are fully operational as of mid-2026 at Rs 2,500 per ride, 8 AM–12 PM daily; a PETA petition remains pending in the Rajasthan High Court but no enforceable ban has been issued. Temple entry at City Palace Udaipur and Eklingji requires covered shoulders and no shorts; Eklingji additionally enforces a complete mobile-phone ban inside the complex with no exceptions.
