Before you go
- Trans Maldivian Airways (the dominant seaplane operator) requires passengers to land at Velana by 15:30 for any same-day resort transfer — a 16:00 arrival is as stranding as a midnight one, and many afternoon flights from India fall after this cutoff, forcing a Male overnight; budget ₹5,000–10,000 extra for Hulhumale bridge-linked hotels or the Hulhule Island Hotel.
- The IMUGA Traveller Declaration is mandatory for all visitors including Indians — it must be submitted free at imuga.immigration.gov.mv within 96 hours before arrival, and airlines can deny boarding or Maldives immigration can deny entry for non-compliance.
- All resort pricing is quoted in USD; at 2024–25 exchange rates a $600/night villa runs approximately ₹50,000/night, so packages that look affordable in rupees can produce a sharp final bill.

Permits & entry — Indian passport holders receive a free 30-day visa on arrival at Velana International Airport; no advance application or fee is required. The Maldives Immigration minimum passport validity requirement is 1 month from the date of arrival; airlines independently enforce their own 6-month norm at check-in, so travelers with fewer than 6 months remaining should confirm with their carrier before travel. Entry requires a confirmed return ticket and a resort or hotel booking confirmation; Maldives immigration formally requires proof of at least USD 100 per person per day of stay, though this is rarely checked for guests presenting resort bookings. All visitors must complete the free IMUGA Traveller Declaration at imuga.immigration.gov.mv within 96 hours before arrival — non-submission can result in denied boarding at the origin airport. No inner-line or protected-area permits are needed for standard atoll travel. Entry to Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll requires a park entry fee of USD 20–30 per person paid at the ranger station; reconfirm the current rate before quoting, as it has risen from earlier figures.
