Before you go
- Christmas–NYE surge (Dec 24–Jan 2): hotel rates triple and beaches are severely overcrowded — book 3+ months ahead or avoid the window entirely.
- Monsoon (Jun–Sep) closes virtually all beach shacks, water-sports operators, and beach-facing restaurants; travel insurance is essential when booking near shoulder dates.
- Dudhsagar Falls jeeps depart from Collem/Kulem station, not Molem town (the national-park entrance ~5 km away); slots fill on weekends and public holidays throughout the full Oct–May season; walking to the falls along the railway track is permanently banned — offenders face fines and forcible removal.

Getting there, permits & day trips
By air — Goa International Airport Dabolim (GOI) or new Mopa (GOX, North Goa); ~1.5 hrs from Mumbai, ~2.5 hrs from Delhi; taxi to North Goa 45-60 min (Rs 800-1,200), South Goa 25-35 min (Rs 600-900)
By rail — Madgaon (Margao) station on Konkan Railway is the main hub; Rajdhani/Jan Shatabdi from Mumbai CSMT ~8-9 hrs; from Delhi ~24 hrs via LTT/Rajdhani; Thivim station (North Goa) also on Konkan line
By road — Mumbai to Goa ~10-12 hrs (560 km) via NH66; Pune ~8-9 hrs (450 km) via NH48 then NH66; KSRTC/private Volvo sleeper buses from Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore widely available

Permits & entry — Indian nationals need no permits anywhere in Goa; no restricted-area or inner-line permits apply. Foreign nationals require a valid Indian visa (e-Visa accepted for most nationalities). At Dudhsagar Falls, private vehicles are barred inside Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary; visitors must use a mandatory forest-department jeep departing from Collem/Kulem station — the railway-station trailhead, not Molem town (the national-park visitor entrance ~5 km away). Jeeps are booked at the DTOA (Dudhsagar Tour Operators Association) counter at Collem or via the GTDC online portal; a GTDC booking counter was added in November 2024 after an operator dispute, and both channels are currently active. Walking to the falls along the railway track is permanently banned under Indian Railways trespass rules. Casino entry requires guests to be aged 21 or over and to present a government photo ID.
