Before you go
- Airside transit through Istanbul — the most common India–Tbilisi routing via Turkish Airlines — requires no transit visa; passengers remain in the international departure hall and a Turkey e-visa is only needed if leaving the airport.
- From 1 January 2026, border officers can refuse entry if the traveller does not carry health and accident insurance covering at least 30,000 GEL; standard Indian travel insurance usually qualifies, but verify the minimum coverage sum before issuing any itinerary dated after 31 December 2025.
- The Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi can close without notice due to snowfall or rockfall between October and April — confirm road status on georoad.ge 48 hours before departure or the itinerary's flagship highlight fails.

Getting there, permits & day trips
By air — Delhi (DEL) or Mumbai (BOM) to Tbilisi (TBS): no direct flight. Best routes — Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (9–11 h total, return ₹32,000–58,000); flydubai/Emirates via Dubai (8–9 h total, ₹35,000–55,000); AZAL via Baku (9–10 h). Book 8–10 weeks ahead for May/Sep; prices spike 25% in July–August.
By rail — No rail option from India to Georgia. Within Georgia: Tbilisi–Kutaisi marshrutka 3 h (₹250); Tbilisi–Batumi overnight train 5 h (₹400–1,200); Tbilisi–Yerevan overnight train 10 h for multi-country add-on.
By road — From Baku (Azerbaijan): shared taxi 5–6 h via Red Bridge / Lagodekhi border crossing — useful for Baku+Georgia combo. From Yerevan (Armenia): shared taxi/bus 5–6 h via Sadakhlo border — classic South Caucasus triangle route.

Permits & entry — Indian passport holders holding a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, any EU/Schengen or EFTA country, any GCC state (minimum 1 year remaining validity), Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, or South Korea may enter Georgia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period with no Georgian visa required. All others must apply via evisa.gov.ge at USD 20 plus a 2% service fee; the portal offers one fee tier only with no single-entry or multiple-entry price split. Processing takes no less than 5 working days and evisa.gov.ge lists no official expedited option — any faster service exists only through third-party agencies. Visa on arrival is not available for Indian passport holders under any circumstances. From 1 January 2026, all tourists must carry valid health and accident insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL; proof is verified at the border and entry may be refused without it. No inner-line permits are required for any Georgian region; the Georgian Military Highway (Tbilisi–Kazbegi) may close October–April and the Svaneti/Mestia road can be impassable December–March — check georoad.ge 48 hours before travel.
